Kris Mattera is a marketing and communications professional who has spent the last five years focused on higher education marketing. A creative turned marketer, Kris follows a passion for understanding how consumers communicate and think, leveraging this information to help her clients reach their marketing and business goals. She wants to help connect the right people with the right stories at the right time.
Her career includes over 10 years experience in marketing and social media, working with MIT, Northeastern University, Suffolk University, Bridgewater State University, Colorado Mountain College and Western State Colorado University. She has worked on both the administrative and academic side, providing her the unique perspective of understanding these different audiences and their needs.
In addition to her consulting work, most recently Kris was the Digital Strategy & Communications Manager for the Information Technology Services division at Northeastern University. In her role, she developed and established the first strategic communications program in the division, providing regular messaging as well as crisis communications to students, faculty, staff and parents. She led the effort on major improvements including a new user-centric website, a unified system alert system with multi-channel integration, a revamped move-in communications campaign and project updates for major service changes.
Prior to Northeastern University, Kris worked at MIT in a role shared between three different areas: the School of Architecture + Planning (SA+P), the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and Arts at MIT. During her time at the Institute she developed and expanded the social media strategy for each area, produced and managed regular e-mail marketing communications, and did content marketing for the social media accounts and websites she managed.
Previously Kris has been an adjunct professor at Suffolk University, teaching upper level courses in social media, digital media and marketing. Being in the classroom has been a rewarding experience that has allowed her to connect with students and truly understand their perspective.
Before focusing in on higher education, Kris formerly worked on the agency side and the client side with Pandemic Labs, Wallwork Curry McKenna, Aon Hewitt, Mercer, MFS Investment Management and Elderhostel. Kris has an undergraduate degree in graphic design and multimedia studies from Northeastern University, and an masters degree in integrated marketing communications from Emerson College.
Kris is an avid runner, hiker, skier and overall adventurer. After 13 years in the Boston area she decided to make the leap to Colorado in order to have more access to the outdoors. She is long time volunteer with the Boston Marathon, working the finish line and serving as team captain for the Food Distribution area, leading a group of 100 volunteers.
